Artist Yuna Yu was born in Chengdu, China in 1997, studied and worked in Toronto, London and Beijing, now base in London.
Yuna’s practice focuses on exploring self-mythology within the contemporary social framework. To investigate the narratives of individual psychological experience, her works often involve with incorporating themes of blurry violence, provocative intimate relationships, melancholy memories, self-destruction and reconstruction. Moreover, her works allude to the uncertainty of primitive psychological emotions, impulses, desire and sensitivities in the modern culture. For example, in her latest works from series Summer Decay, examines the birth of self-mythology inspired by my research and experiences during a trip to Egypt. This series is also linked to Carl Jung’s concept of Collective Unconscious, the fundamental theme as she explores the relationship between self-mythology, death, time and eternal love.
